Telling My Story Part 2
After I went buck wild at the age of 19 for a solid year, I actually settled down. I worked as if my life depended on it. I always strived to get out of my current job to get promoted into another one and make more money and I always wrestled with the idea that I should be doing something else...
Book Cover Reveal and FREE Book Marketing Resources
The Christopher Chronicles 2.0 has been like putting together a puzzle. I've had the innards, but the book design was the missing piece. It's hard to put together a puzzle without the edges...
A flavor of Miz Angelou
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing
I went back to the drawing board...
Yesterday didn't quite go as planned. My team lost the Super Bowl for one. But leading up to that I burnt dinner and I had to go back to the drawing board. I've been getting up at 5:00 am for countless days straight, so being tired and burnt beans had everything to do with my bad mood yesterday. Fortunately, the schools were on a two-hour delay today and I gave myself an extra hour in bed. So I've got a little pep back in my still grumpy step.
The Christopher Chronicles 2.0 is Coming Soon!
It's February 1st! Wow, last month flew by. Did I say that already? This time, I'm not sad about it about because I worked January like a boss and I'm getting up at 5:00 am for my peaceful hour, like a champ.
Worthy of my dreams...
Where I am on January 28, 2016 is where I wanted to be this time last year. When February rolled in last year I said, "OMG, it's February." Repeat that and insert each of the remaining months and that's how my year went. Last year FLEW by, and I was so disappointed in myself about what I hadn't yet accomplished. Fast forward to the new year...
The Rookie Fan, the Old Man & Football
For as long as you've known me IRL or via this blog, you know football hasn't been my thing. I had nothing but complaints for it. You can't love what you don't understand. This season (last year) was Christopher's third year of playing, and my first year really enjoying it....
Telling My Story
As early as age 10, I knew that I wanted to be a writer. My mom had taken me to see Maya Angelou. I listened to Maya Angelou’s voice as she read some of her poetry and I fell in love with what I knew in my heart I could do. I loved writing poems and short stories...
Telling My Story
I know it is written somewhere in memoir form, what I was doing on this day five years ago. But off the cuff I can tell you I had this blog and hadn't written in it since October of 2010. I wrote, The Rhythm of Words when I was rebirthing the writer in me...
I Choose Peace
In Kenya's world, peace can be defined in just a few ways. I try to keep my t's crossed and i's dotted, but not everything can be controlled. In the real world the stars will never be aligned to perfection. Not even if I win the jagillion-dollar Powerball.
When PMS Obstructs Christmas Spirit...
People have always complimented me on my calm demeanor. I do react but I keep it all inside. For the most part, I walk away fuming. Sometimes when I'm under the influence of PMS I write letters to customer service. I gotta hand it to myself because even I don't know how I do it...
Hess to be rebranded as Speedway
On November 30th, I strolled into "Hess", not noticing that the sign had changed I asked, "Where are the Hess trucks?" The lady behind the counter said, "Speedway has acquired Hess retail, so you can only buy them online." She offered, "We have Speedway trucks." I thanked and no thanked her and high-tailed it to another Hess because I didn't believe her...
The Old Man and the Airborne...
There isn't a daddy visit that goes by without a story to tell...
The Elephant in the Blog Room...
I like to come here and just let whatever roll off the keyboard, staying clear of controversial topics and current events. Lots of times I come here to write and I can't because there's an elephant in my blog room. Today I put on my big girl panties and hoisted myself on the elephant to stream from my conscience.
What's in your photo stream?
How you doin? It's show and tell from my Photo Stream on my blog today and I'm talking about coloring for mindfulness, food, drowning gnats, killing plants, headless football uniforms and so on... It's all relative. Relevant? Not really. But stop by and take a walk through Kenya's world...
Grasping At Straws...
With a futile attempt at blogging and being relevant, I gave myself a few minutes to "stream" from "my conscience". It's been a week since so much has happened...
Food Wars: The Battle of the Bears
Let me preface this story with explaining that when I met Papa Bear I had been a vegetarian for a good chunk of my life, but had recently started eating chicken and shrimp. Papa Bear on the other hand was Straight Outta Louisiana and ate the complete opposite. I mean like no vegetables steak and potatoes opposite. Just like with any other ups and downs in a relationship, we occasionally go through food wars. I am currently on strike.
The Point of it All...
I love writing in my room and as much as my thoughts scrounge for something relevant to write about, coming up with nothing, I can't stay away too long...
A Chair To Remember...
Excerpt: I cleaned out our spare bedroom, which was to be the baby's room. It was becoming a storage room and I couldn't stand it. I wanted to sit in my grandmother's rocking chair and imagine the room fully furnished.
Cooking Under Pressure...
It's football practice season, which means meal planning or eating out. I prefer to eat in. #1 there's leftovers, #2 it's healthier, #3 it's cheaper, #4 my son can be in bed at a reasonable time (provided I've planned and cooked ahead of time). But who plans and cooks ahead of time?
