Letter To Isolation Journal - Day 5

Dear Isolation Journal,

This is my first time participating in this writing prompt. It started on April 1st. The prompt today is to record the moment in front of your favorite window.

***

My favorite spot is just like sitting on the front porch, except here I’m protected from the elements. I’m in my office at the front of the house. It’s a little room right off the kitchen. I’m so glad I kicked my husband out of this space. It’s been almost 10 years. His office is a junk room/spare bedroom. Last July we had the carpet taken out and hardwood floors put in. It was so organized and spotless. Now it has returned to how it looked before new flooring.

I digress.

Window.

When we shared this office space years ago, I kept it closed off from the kitchen because it was so cluttered; then I couldn’t see through to the window.

Window.

I’m on my iPad so I can turn around and face the window. The rocking chairs aren’t there because the porch has been painted and we haven’t put them back yet.

Outside sounds so peaceful. The birds are singing; that is a good sign isn’t it? There’s a bird that goes whoooo whoooo whoooo - always three times every few minutes. I have no idea if it would be an owl. I’m going to have to research that. He’s an early morning bird, like if you were still in the bed and had the windows open he’d wake you up.

I’m imagining that sunrise on the beach, where I can’t go anymore.

It’s closed until further notice.

Outside of my favorite window is my favorite tree. She’s red right now. Her name is Maxine. She’s only green in the summer. When Maxine is green, it is very very hot outside and the windows are not open.

I don’t know if she’s prettier now or prettier in the fall. The sun is higher now, reflecting Maxine’s vibrancy.

Another bird has joined the party. His chirp goes four times, higher and louder than the whooo whooo whoooo bird.

I hear dogs now. There are two of them around the corner and that house has an electric fence. I call them big bully and little bully. They are identical except one is a miniature of the breed. For the longest I thought he was a puppy but he never got any bigger. When you walk by, they come running up to the invisible border to bark at you.

It’s time to make coffee now. Maxine is really glowing.

Thank you God for showing me a beautiful morning outside of my favorite window.

This is me. In front of my favorite window. Capturing the moment.

At the conclusion of my post, I asked Google to play It’s A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. I wonder if Mr. Armstrong was sitting in front of his favorite window when he wrote it. And wherever he was at the time, I’m glad his world was so wonderful.

He made me smile this morning.

Off to make coffee, research the whooo whooo whooo bird and the inspiration behind Louis Armstrong’s It’s A Wonderful World.

Sporadically Yours, Kenya
