I was inspired by motherhood to be who I am

I held a newborn baby yesterday. A sweet itty bitty, curled up newborn. If I had been alone with him, I would have sniffed his head, and pulled off his socks to look at his itty bitty toes.

I honestly can't remember in the eleven years since Christopher was born if I've held another baby. Not because I didn't want to, but the opportunity never presented itself.

I thought that by this time in life, I'd have three kids of my own and motherhood would be my life.

I wanted motherhood to be my life because up until then, I didn't know what else I could be.

It wasn't until I was in the throws of motherhood that I said, this isn't it. This isn't all that I'm meant to be.

When our my husband's photography business took off and I was in the throws of helping him I said, "This isn't it. This isn't all I am meant to be."

Alas, I am not the old mother in the shoe, nor have I ever been the type. When asked how come I don't have any more children, I can come up with a whole laundry list of truths.

When I was just 10 years old, I thought that by this time in life, I'd be an author.

But really, I had no idea it would be my truth.
